Welcome

A Great Loss to Our Community
It is with great sadness that we report that Chris Wolf, the Executive Director of A Way Home, the Mecklenburg Council on Homelessness, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December the 3rd. Chris was a tireless advocate for the homeless in Charlotte/ Mecklenburg, and his many contributions will be missed. His huge heart was even bigger than his tall stature. Through his efforts and collaborations with the Homeless Services Network and related agencies, the Mecklenburg Department of Social Services, the Charlotte Housing Authority, the City of Charlotte Neighborhood Development Department, the United Way, Foundation for the Carolinas, the Board of County Commissioners, and the City Council to name only a few, our community is poised to make significant inroads in the fight to end homelessness.
The creation of the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness is due in significant part to Chris' leadership and partnerships with others. W.I.S.H. - the Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing - was created through the efforts of Chris, Darren Ash, Crisis Assistance Ministry, Lutheran Family Services, Charlotte Emergency Housing and many others. Less than two weeks ago, Chris led the community's fifth annual Hope for the Homeless Awareness Walk, which had close to 1,000 walkers.
Please join the Board of Directors of A Way Home and the many volunteers, staff and clients to express our condolences to his wife Cristen, and to his children Alex, Shelbey, Paige, and Ainsley. Our friend, champion, and tireless advocate will be missed.

Our dear friend Chris Wolf is now in a better place. The son of Phyllis and Donald, brother of Polly, father of Shelbey, Paige, Alex, and Ainsley, and husband of Cristen, always said that life was most fulfilling when lived in service. Chris answered, in peace, the call he received from higher places on Thursday, December the 3rd.

As those who knew him will remember, everything with Chris was big. All of us who had the blessing of laughing with him will always remember his willingness to smile, his smart sarcasm and that powerful magnetism which made him bigger -even though he already was, most likely, the tallest person in the room-. But bigger was his heart, which failed him unexpectedly, maybe as a final complaint for his excesses in bringing more people in.

May the love we all shared with him, in past and present, guide our memories when celebrating his being ever present in all that he touched: his causes, his family, and friends.

The memorial service will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church (234 North Sharon Amity Road Charlotte, NC 28211) on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 2:00pm.

A reception honoring Chris will follow at the Whitehead Manor (5901 Sardis Road).

Donations in lieu of flowers to Crisis Assistance Ministries (500-A Spratt Street, Charlotte 28206) or Habitat for Humanity Matthews (P.O. Box 2008, Matthews, NC 28106)

¡Hasta pronto amigo! We'll be together soon.
